After building our outdoor BBQ kitchen the area next to the sink needed something! I went to my scrap wood pile and came up with making this herb wall! I was able to make this completely out of scrap wood so my grand total for this build was FREE! Although I understand not everyone has random wood laying around so if you need to buy things this is what you will need.
What you will need:
One 2x6x8ft
Two 1x6x6ft fence panels
screws
weed barrier fabric
staple gun
driver
stain/paint
Step 1:
Take your 2x6 and cut it down to a pair of 40" pieces, however this can be customized to however long you choose. You can use the remainder of the 2x6 to cut the same size triangles.

Step 2:
Assemble the triangles onto the pieces you just cut. This too can also be customizable to however many openings you want. I went with three, so I needed a total of 6 triangles. Secure with screws side by side to ensure they will line up evenly.

Step 3:
Determine how wide you would like your planters to be. I went with a total width of 2ft so I cut my fence boards down to 21” each and made 2 for each opening, so a total of 6. Secure to the front of the triangles and then flip the entire planter and secure to the back of each triangle to make little troughs.
Step 4:
Take weed barrier fabric and line the inside of the planters troughs, secure with staples.

Step 5:
Paint or Stain! I decided to match the stain I used on my couches, which was a white wash and then a coat of Special Walnut.

Step 6:
Hang and fill! I found the studs on my wall, leveled the herb wall and secured it by drilling through one of the back fence boards directly into my siding. Than I filled it with soil and my favorite herbs!

That’s it! This is a quick beginner friendly DIY that can be done in an hour! I ended up adding a wood dowel I had on hand at the bottom to hang our BBQ tongs, etc.
