This plaster wall I did behind our desk in the office renovation was such an easy DIY that made a huge impact in this space. When I started on this project I really had no clue what the plan was and I just started smearing joint compound on the wall with a trowel. In order to get the joint compound into the corners I found I had to use my hands to push it up and that is when I found my "technique". This is a super inexpensive project with minimal supplies needed!

Supplies needed:

Get creative!

I say this is a tutorial but honestly this is something that really cannot be messed up and I donhave many instructions. You literally take your hand and scoop up a handful of drywall mud and smear it on the wall. Then with your fingers together you lightly scrape in circular motion basically all over and repeat the process, grabbing more mud as needed. It can be customized to your preference, if you want swirls or more of a linear pattern, you just create the pattern you want.

Once you have the section or even entire wall you want done covered you need to let it dry probably for at least 48 hrs. You will notice the thicker areas will remain darker longer and that is because they are not fully dry. Once everything is stark white it means it is dry.

This next part really gives it character! I had such a hard time figuring out how to add dimension to it with subtle color. I attempted to use paint and that made it look like my 3 year old just got into finger painting, needless to say it was a fail. I wanted something to dust on to give shadow and what better thing than makeup bronzer! I literally used a big makeup brush and bronzer and just heavily brushed it all over the wall. It basically just created the shadows I wanted and was not too overpowering, it was perfect! You cannot mess this up either because you can't put too much in my opinion because only so much will actually stay on the wall.

Next depending on if you are putting this only on a portion of a wall like I was, you can add stained 1x2s as a border to finish it off. This gave it more of an artwork look and framed it in.

That is all their is to it! I still plan to spray a matte clear coat spray paint to seal it but I have yet to do it. I would love to also trial adding a dye into the joint compound prior to applying to the wall so that it has the color already. If you happen to give this a go be sure to send me in your finished projects!

Like always I saved this process to a highlight on my Instagram and you can watch that here if you are a more visual person!
